Our first fresh fig of the season. Dozens of others are now emerging on our tree, in our yard, but they are smaller than a penny, and are not ripe. This one however, appeared, as if out of time, at the beginning of May and was ripe by the end of May, and it is huge. The fig is a symbol of Israel. - “A man planted a fig tree in the middle of his vineyard.” Lk. 13:6. (A picture of Israel among the nations) - “Now learn the lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and it’s leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so when you see all these things…this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.” Mt. 24:32
