From my annual through-the-Bible reading today: "All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to exalt his horn. For God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters." (1 Chronicles 25:5) - The language of Scripture always places the giving of children as an act of God, received by us. How can God give the children He desires to give to us (seen positively in the Bible) if we are actively seeking to prevent Him from doing so? Heman's 14 sons served "under the direction of their father for the music [in] the house of the LORD, with cymbals, stringed instruments, and harps, for the service of the house of the LORD." (v.6). In a day when churches and schools are shrinking drastically, and many have closed, have we traded the future for the temporal conveniences of a small family (by choice) when God desired to give us the next generation of those that would have populated, led, and served the Church and were available to be sent to continue evangelizing the nations?
